Morgan County, Indiana Sheriff's Sergeant Dan Starnes lost his life in the line of duty on July 10, 2001. To keep his legacy alive, his wife Janice started a blood drive in Morgan County later that year.
The drive has been held each year since -- and has grown bigger each year.
In 2007, Mrs. Starnes asked for the drive to go statewide in honor of Dan and all of Indiana's fallen officers. The Sergeant Dan Starnes Memorial Blood Drive then became known as the Indiana Fallen Officers Blood Drive and became a statewide event.
