SUPPORTING HEROES supports families of police, fire, and EMS heroes killed in the line of duty. We currently serve Indiana and Kentucky.

SUPPORTING HEROES is not an 'insurance' program, but an 'assurance' program. Our goal is to assure those who routinely risk their lives on behalf of others that, should the ultimate call to service come, the loved ones they leave behind will be well cared for - through a collaborative effort of their fellow public safety personnel and the citizens they serve.

"Our mission is to honor the service and sacrifice of public safety heroes who give their lives in the line of duty - by caring for the loved ones they leave behind."

Membership is NOT required to receive benefits. ALL public safety personnel in Indiana and Kentucky are covered.

"Police", "Fire" & "EMS" are general terms used to broadly categorize those who risk their lives for the safety of our communities.

Included are:

  • Police Officers
  • Sheriff's & Deputy Sheriff's
  • Constables & Deputy Constables
  • Sworn Corrections Officers
  • Federal Law Enforcement Agents
  • Firefighters
  • Rescue Squad Personnel
  • EMT's, Paramedics & Ambulance Crewmembers; etc.

Immediate Support

SUPPORTING HEROES responds to all line of duty public safety deaths within our service area and provides immediate support.

  • Recognizing the financial stress that naturally occurs or intensifies in the wake of tragedy, an $3,000 'emergency funds' check is presented to the immediate survivor as quickly as possible - with the promise of additional funds as needed.
  • Memorial Teams are available to handle or assist with funeral planning/coordination in accordance with the wishes of the family and agency.
  • Peer support is provided through survivors of other fallen heroes who understand what the family is going through.
  • Additional support is provided as needed (assistance with funeral expenses, travel, grief counseling, etc.)

Continued Support

After a funeral many people, in time, are able to return to their normal lives. But for the survivors of fallen public safety personnel, "normal" will never be the same again. "A hero's sacrifice is forever" -- so is the sacrifice of the hero's family.

Therefore, the care and support of SUPPORTING HEROES is long-term. A short time after the funeral, an assessment is made of the family's financial needs. As determined on a case by case basis, monthly financial support is then provided to eliminate or prevent financial stress. The financial support continues until state and/or federal line of duty death benefits are received. Other forms of support are also provided -- again, as determined on a case by case basis.

How You Can Help

Become a Supporting Heroes member

Become a member

Many people appreciate the daily service and sacrifice of public safety personnel and want to show it, but they do not know how. Becoming a member of SUPPORTING HEROES does exactly that.

As a member of SUPPORTING HEROES, you will state publicly that you recognize and appreciate what public safety personnel do for you, and you stand ready to care for a hero's family should one make the supreme sacrifice in your service.

With your paid membership, you will receive a membership sticker for your car, a lapel pin, and a membership card. But the real value of membership is intrinsic and 'priceless.' It comes with the knowledge that, when a hero falls, "We'll Be There" together to care for his family.
