KOSCIUSKO COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - Kosciusko County Sergeant Jeffery B. Shaw was killed in a traffic crash on SR 14 Thursday afternoon.

It happened around 3:00 p.m. just west of 100 East. The crash involved Shaw's 2007 police Crown Victoria and a 1994 GMC straight truck driven by Steven Byerly, 53, of Fort Wayne.

Medics took Sgt. Shaw to Kosciusko Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead. Byerly was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Sgt. Shaw is a Warsaw native. He joined the Sheriff's Department in 1994 working in the work release program. He was hired as a deputy in July 1998.

The accident is under investigation by the Indiana State Police. So far the department has not released information about how or why the crash happened.
