We regret to announce that the Southport, Indiana police officer who was shot in the line-of-duty this afternoon has died of his injuries. Lieutenant Aaron Allen served the Southport Police Department for six years and had over 20 years law enforcement experience.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the men and women of the Southport, Indiana (southside of Indianapolis) Police Department and their families after a Southport officer has been shot in the line-of-duty following a vehicle pursuit. The officer has been transported to Eskenazi Hospital. There is no word yet on his condition.

It is with deep regret we announce the line-of-duty death of Saint Louis Fire Department Captain John Kemper. Captain Kemper died earlier today from complications of an injury sustained while battling a structure fire in the early morning hours of July 5th -- as a result of illegal fireworks. He was one of four SLFD firefighters injured and transported within a 12-hour period.
