Incident

Officer Bolin was killed when he was knocked off an inter-urban freight train. He had apparently "hopped" a ride on the slow moving train and was brushed off by a danger sign protruding from a steel support beneath the elevation.

Officer Bolin was found lying in the street by the driver of a passing taxicab. His chest had been crushed and he had severe head injuries. He was unconscious when found.

Officer Bolin was widely known as a singer and had appeared at church and lodge assemblies. He was born in Zanesville, Ohio and had moved to Indianapolis in 1910 while employed by a telephone company. He was assigned to the electrical division of the police and fire alarm system when he first became a member of the police Dept.
