Incident

Tye Patrick Brown, 31, of Shawnee, Kansas, lost his life in the line of duty on April 3, 2004. He worked as an emergency medical technician for the Edwardsville Fire Station.

Completing a medical call, Tye and his partner (Katherine Malone) arrived back at the fire station. After opening the bay door and backing their ambulance into the garage, the two were unaware that an armed man had slipped inside the fire station as the doors opened. As Tye and his partner exited the rescue vehicle the subject approached them and fatally shot them both at close range.

EMT Brown was a United States Army veteran of the Persian Gulf War.
