Lieutenant/Paramedic Mathews made multiple emergency runs during his 24-hour shift. After completing one just before midnight, he told his supervisor that we did not feel well and was going to rest. He was temporarily marked 'out of service' in hopes that he would feel better after a break. He was later found deceased in quarters from an apparent heart attack.

Kurt always made the shifts enjoyable at Henry County EMS. He always had a story and would always have a joke to tell. We worked many of shifts together. Thank you for your service my brother we have it from here. RIP
