While responding to a reported fire, Chief Youngblood's fire department car collided with a police car that was responding to the same alarm. Chief Youngblood was thrown from his vehicle, striking a utility pole. He died a short time later. The call that they were responding to turned out to be a false alarm. Chief Youngblood's great grandson currently serves as a Captain with the Evansville Fire Department.
