Incident

Patrolman Stiverson was attempting to negotiate with an escaped mental patient who had hijacked a bus when he was shot and killed. Patrolman Stiverson was sitting in the passenger seat of his cruiser while his partner provided cover during the negotiations. The suspect fatally shot Patrolman Stiverson in the chest and shot his partner five times. Patrolman Stiverson's partner was able to return fire and kill the suspect.

In honor of Patrolman Stiverson his badge number 154 was retired. The radio call sign for officer needing assistance became 154 by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Sheriff's Department.
